Special Needs

Some of us have, or are caregivers of people that have Special Needs that they must consider when making decisions about dental products and dental care. Families that have kids with Down syndrome, autism or aspbergers, or other conditions may need special considerations when caring for their childrens dental health. People with arthritis or other conditions may similarly have dental needs that are not met by all products.
The easiest and most effective way to care for your teeth, your patient’s teeth, or your loved one’s teeth is to purchase an electric toothbrush.

Flossing can be tricky, but remember, any flossing is better than none at all. Caregivers can effectively floss their patients or family members using flossers that resemble wishbones. I use these with my own children. There are many different brands that work great, so try a few and choose the ones that fit your needs the best.

Lastly, if you or the person you are caring for has enough bone loss, try using proxabrushes. Check out the teethsaver section in this website. Remember it has to slip through the gums without hurting the person. Our gums are delicate and once they shrink away, we do not grow them back, so be gentle. I will be posting the links to these products soon and I will continue to update this area as I find new products.
